Hi, I'm Mikayla!
I bring a diverse set of skills and experiences that defy a single title like "visual designer" or "graphic designer," so I describe myself as a creative designer. I have skill sets in layout design, branding, illustration, animation, photography, and several other areas, including a strong knowledge of the corresponding software. While I excel in some areas more than others, I take pride in my commitment to continuous learning and my ability to quickly adapt to roles that require new knowledge. In every role I have held, I see myself as a problem or puzzle solver. Every design always has a matter or problem at the root, and while there are often many potential solutions, my goal as a designer is to find the best one.​
I hold a BFA in Graphic Design from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, and another BFA in Studio Art from the University of Denver, where I also minored in Psychology. Recently, I served as the sole graphic designer at a civil engineering firm, where I collaborated with diverse stakeholders and managed overlapping, continuous deadlines. Currently, I am a designer at a store specializing in printed materials. Before and during my studies, I worked in retail, up to an assistant management level. I have also held both paid and volunteer roles in organizations working with children.​
Though my family hails from Montana, I spent most of my life in Colorado before recently relocating to Southern California. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood or a backpacking trip—especially when I can share those moments with friends and family. I adore and have dabbled in most things creative but at the moment spend time painting, knitting, creating Cricut designs, and doing ceramics. I also have been an avid reader from a young age, and lately find myself drawn to fantasy, historical fiction, science fiction, art history, gender studies and psychology.
